Department of Business and Sustainability
Dr. Sapna A. Narula is working as Associate Professor and Head in the Department of Business Sustainability at TERI School of Advanced Studies and is currently teaching courses on sustainable business strategy, Sustainability Reporting, CSR and Strategic planning. She holds around 18 years of experience in teaching and research in the area of Business Strategy, Sustainability, CSR, Marketing and has been taking guest lectures at premier Universities and Institutes in India. Her current research interests include exploring sustainability and CSR issues in Indian corporate landscape with a focus particularly on oil and gas, hotel, textile, mining and agribusiness. She is a qualified trainer for Business and Ecosystem training from World Business Council for Development (WBCSD)and has also obtained faculty development training from IIM Bangalore in the field of business strategy, product development. She also conducts a regular MDP programme on Sustainability Reporting and Business Sustainability which has been well received by industry.
Presently, she is also working on CSR project funded by Coal India Ltd. on Eco restoration and livelihood generation activities in Jharia Coal Mines. Prior to that, she has worked on a number of research projects including Sustainability Practices of Luxury Hotels in India ( Deakin university, Australia) Decentralized off-grid electricity generation in developing countries: Business models for off-grid electricity supply (in collaboration with University of Dundee, funded by EPSRC, EU and DFID,UK; Revisiting the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture ( funded by the Government of India); Assessing Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation Strategies for Maharashtra State. (Funding Agency: Department of Environment, Maharashtra, India); Designing Climate Change Adaptation Responses for IFADs Project in Jharkhand (Funding Agency: International Fund for Agricultural Development).
Her research work in the area of use of ICTs (information and communication technologies) for sustainable development has won many accolades including Prosper.Net Scopus Young Scientist Award for Sustainable Development, 2011 delivered jointly by German Ministry, United Nations University & Elsevier and a Young Scientist Award (2009) from Uttarakhand Council for Science and Technology, Government of Uttarakhand. A gold medalist from Delhi University, she holds a Ph.D in the area of Sustainable Business Strategy from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and has also earned her postgraduate degrees in science and management both. Her work has been published in leading international journals including Journal of Cleaner Production, Social Responsibility Journal, International Journal of Healthcare management, International Journal of Sustainable Strategic Management, Environment, Development and Sustainability, Strategic Change to name a few. Currently, she is a visiting academic at Deakin Business School, Melbourne, Australia for a short teaching and research assignment.
