    Shaleen Singhal

    Dr. Shaleen Singhal is a faculty member and holds the position of the Head of the Department of Policy Studies at the TERI University. With education profile spanning architecture, planning and regeneration, Dr. Singhal has developed synergies across the three disciplines through research and teaching. His doctoral study from University of Ulster, UK entitled: City Competitiveness, Regeneration, and Property-led Business Strategies, was highly commended in the 2009 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards competing with entrants from 37 countries worldwide for the global award scheme. His professional experience of fifteen years focuses on sustainable urban economic development issues in India and the United Kingdom. Earlier he contributed to higher education in the UK as a teacher for over three years and as a Lecturer in Sustainability Design for two years in the School of the Built Environment, University of Ulster (UU). He had focused on research-led teaching, learning and assessment of the students on postgraduate and undergraduate programmes on urban planning, property investment and development, and construction business and project management.

    His subject areas of teaching and supervision of dissertations for undergraduate and postgraduate students included sustainable habitat, spatial planning, place making & city imaging and urban regeneration. He also contributed to successful accreditation of university programmes by the Royal Town Planning Institute and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. As a member of the Built Environment Research Institute, UU, he focused on research areas related to low carbon growth and business improvement districts potential. Based on commitments to higher education practice, Dr. Singhal was conferred the status of a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK in 2011.

    His research at TERI relates to areas of environmental reporting, post-impact evaluation of infrastructure, water resources management, performance benchmarking of urban services and industrial symbiosis. He had been an invited speaker at various international conferences. Dr Singhal's areas of research interest include ecology based planning, infrastructure performance and sustainable regeneration for competitiveness of cities.
