About Us

The Project aims to strengthen two flagship missions promulgated by the new Government of India viz. National Skill Development and Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean India). These missions warrant two pronged approach- (i) capacity expansion of hardware and infrastructure, and (ii) strengthening the capacity of Institutions and stakeholders for achieving missions’ objectives. The proposed Project is of 3 year duration. It is a joint-initiative of the TERI University, Coca-Cola India and TERI with support from USAID to help achieve Government’s sanitation targets by conducting a WASH risk analysis in Kolkata and Chennai slums, developing participatory intervention strategies in urban areas, and building capacity of faculty and students through a model sanitation curriculum. Specifically, the programme plans to reach 20 municipal schools and 2,500 students through school WASH programmes, 50,000 beneficiaries in low-income settlements, and over 300 professionals through WASH governance studies.

The Project will strengthen the Department of Regional Water Studies in the TERI University, which will incorporate WASH in its teaching programme and generate a wide, multi-stakeholder understanding of the need for addressing WASH issues in India. The Department will explore and develop linkages with urban local bodies (ULBs), WASH related initiatives of GoI, and existing sanitation networks (such as WES-Net India etc.) to engage a wider and influential audience. The members of these stakeholder groups will be invited to participate in the workshop, ToT, engagement in wider student community activities like - action research, inter-university competition, publically advertised talks, media exposure, conferences etc.
