Life Cycle Assessment and product benchmarking

All the products introduced in the market have certain environmental impacts and industry now-a-days is looking for option which has least environmental impact. Life Cycle Assessment is one such tool which can be used while designing the product so that its has minimal impact on the environment including contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. The course therefore was structured towards training the participants on the basic aspects of LCA, and how it can b e used by the industry to design a product with minimal environmental impact.
Sustainable Packaging for Circular Economy

The source on sustainable packaging looked at addressing the present problem of using low value plastics as packaging materials, looking at various plastic packaging alternatives like glass, paper, and bio based materials. Use of life cycle assessment approach to decide most suitable packaging alternative and also advantages and disadvantages of each of the plastic packaging alternatives. The advance phase of the course also covered kind of care which is taken while producing packaging intended to be used for packaging food items to avoid contamination.

The basic course was started from 3rd to 5th January 2024; advanced course was held from 31st January 2024 to 2nd February 2024. Delivered with knowledge partner, EKonnect Foundation. This session was attended by 115 participants.
Sustainable packaging for Circular Economy
The Emerson CoE hosted a training session on sustainable packaging from 20th to 22nd March 2024 with Foundation for Innovation in Packaging Solutions, (FIPS) through Prof. Dr. N. C. Saha, as its Chairman & Director (Packaging Technology, Industry Relationship and Publication), FIPS. The course focused on alternatives to low-value plastic packaging such as glass, paper, and bio-based materials. The session covered life cycle assessment for selecting suitable packaging options, along with the benefits and challenges of each material, including safety considerations for food packaging to prevent contamination. The session was attended by 56 participants.

The Emerson CoE conducted a training program on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to equip industry professionals and researchers with tools to assess and minimize the environmental impact of products. This basic course started from 21st to 23rd February 2024; advanced course from 13th, 14th and 16th March 2024). Delivered with knowledge partner, Professor Brajesh Dubey, from IIT Kharagpur. The session covered LCA fundamentals, its role in sustainable product design, and its application in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, helping industries develop environmentally responsible solutions. This event was attended by 52 participants.
