Abstract: The prevailing scenario of ground water development and management in India calls for an urgent need for augmentation of ground water resources. To overcome the hazards of desaturation of aquifer zone and consequent deterioration of ground water quality, there is an urgent need for artificial recharge of ground water by augmenting the natural infiltration of precipitation or surface-water into underground formations. Coca‐Cola, India has set an aspirational goal to safely return to nature and to communities an amount of water equivalent to what they use in all their beverages and their production by the process of replenishing the ground water aquifer by methods such as water spreading, recharge through pits, shafts, wells etc. The choice of a particular method of artificial ground water recharge is governed by local topographical, geological and soil conditions; the quantity and quality of water available for recharge and the technological and economic viability and social acceptability of such schemes. The analytical studies conducted on the water replenishment projects of the company, which comprised of validation of the water replenishment projects in terms of calculation methodology, performance attributes and data adequacy, gave a clear picture that the practices followed by the company are viable and feasible. The interventions adopted by the company seem to be appropriate according to the rock strata and aquifer characteristics. The company follows the policy of not taking risks while doing replenishment and believes that it is fine to err on the side of caution rather than gloating.
