Abstract: A growing body of evidence indicates that access to safe drinking-water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services has an important positive impact on the society. Safe drinking water and sanitation are very much related with the fundamental rights of humans. Without ensuring access to safe drinking water and sanitation, no nation can develop its health sector. Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector still remains as one of the most considerable and also vulnerable part in India. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 40 per cent of the world’s population is deprived of basic health facilities. Similarly, about a billion people are deprived of drinking water facilities. It is estimated that about 80 per cent of all diseases are caused by drinking impure water. On the other hand vulnerability of our water resource in terms of quantity is also increasing. While water is a renewable resource, it is at the same time a finite resource. With this rapidly urbanizing and economizing world the competing users for this resource is also increasing. Hence, we need to efficiently manage the resource in a balanced way so as to sustain this resource. Therefore, capturing all the possibilities of recharging this source should be considered. Artificial ground water recharge provides one such opportunity to recharge out ground water. India receives a fairly good amount of rainfall every year and hence there is a need to explore this opportunity of artificial recharge to the fullest. Keeping the sensitivity of this resource in mind quantitatively, qualitatively, and socially Coca-Cola is working on these themes extensively. ‘Support My School’ is a project to promote the proper sanitation, health and hygiene facilities in the country whereas various projects on artificial groundwater recharge is to help the country deal with the problems of water scarcity. This work highlights the work of this company in both the arenas.
