Abstract: Green initiatives involve the practices of reducing the emission of green house gases from various enterprises involving both large scale emission green house gases like carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide like industries to the use of chemical fertilizers and other inorganic supplements by farmers in agricultural fields. This programmed emphasizes on protecting the water, air and also other environmental benefits by preserving the bio diversity and also the quality of the soil, air and water.

This paper mainly concentrates on the implementation of green technology and green energy in the rural areas in Meghalaya. Mainly three initiatives were implemented and study, these are the spring initiation which involves the rejuvenation and protection of the catchment. The seed bank initiation which involves the promotion of the various indigenous crops and also the third is organic farming without the use of fertilizers and also promote the various Indigenous Traditional Knowledge and other bio resources use for the development of the rural areas in promoting the livelihood of the villagers and also to maintain the sustainability of the environment and also the judicious and sustainable use of local and natural resources ,these initiatives will try to promote green energy and also to reduce the emission of green house gases which would have been produced if other non sustainable energy are used.

Apart from the scientific knowledge implemented in the villages the work out for a feasible economic study for the various practices has been calculated , the gross return was calculated based on the money gain from the enterprises and also the net return was calculated subtracting the cost of the enterprise from the gross return and hence the cost benefit ratio was calculated by dividing the gross return from the cost of the enterprise. The other feasible study was the implementation of a vermi compost unit in the village and its uses in the development of the people’s livelihood and welfare.

These initiatives help to conserve and protect the natural resources of not only the rural areas but also the either state as well. However with the growing population there has been an increasing in the industrialization and urbanization which has also multiplied the emission of carbon and green house gases in the state, so there is a drastically need of change and implementation of these green energy and green technology to reduce the pollution generated from industries but mainly to reduce the chemicals of the use of inorganic fertilizers which in the future may pollute the rivers and lakes through run off since the state receive a high amount during the monsoon season and also the degradation of the soil since the nutrient in the soil will be exhausted and over use.

The green initiatives provide a sustainable development both in terms of economic growth, social and environmental benefits. These initiatives help in reducing pollution and avoid pollution through its various eco friendly technologies and through the sustainable use of various locally available resources.
