Abstract: There is a growing need for a central spatial data repository for storing huge geospatial data and visualizing or querying it. Building a spatial data repository requires use of Web Mapping APIs. It provides various GIS web services to its users which allows them to work on geospatial data over the internet, analyze it or download data based on their requirements. Data is provided to the users in the form of maps by a Map Server which assists the Web Server. The maps are tiled and these tiles are cached and stored in a tile cache which is accessed by the web server when a client makes a request for them. This project involves use of MapGuide Open Source tool to build a repository which uses Open Layers API and Fusion templates for visualizing spatial data over the network. The maps are created and styled using MapGuide Maestro tool which also allows for connecting data through spatial databases like SQL server and Postgres using PostGIS plugin and GDAL for raster data. The maps are tiled using an inbuilt tool and are stored on the server side for faster access and widgets are added to the repository to provide more functionalities to its users. The repository provides a centralized resource for users to visualize and share spatial data.
