Abstract: The project was carried out in two different areas of focus. First and foremost was ‗The Performance analysis of the 1st phase of TERI-HAL Solar Rooftop project and Need Assessment of the 2nd phase of TERI-HAL Solar Rooftop project as a part of ‗Sustainable Educational Institutions in Bangalore‘. The second major area of study was the mandatory energy audit of an energy intensive textile industry.

Through TERI-HAL Solar rooftop project the aims of BESCOM under Vidyut Jagruti Yojana in Schools were fulfilled. Complete consumption analysis of various schools and colleges were done and solar rooftop need assessment and resource assessment were done as a part of 2nd phase of TERI-HAL solar rooftop project. As a part of the performance analysis of the already installed solar systems under phase 1, the system performance was monitored and analysed using online e-monitoring system. Comparison of the generation and consumption of power before and after installation was analysed and thus analysed the effectiveness of the system. Analysis of deviations from the estimated generation was done and flaws were corrected.

The second part of the project was Energy audit of an energy intensive industry, which was a textile industry. The audit was a part of the mandatory energy audit that has to be carried out by designated consumers under the PAT scheme for energy management. Purpose of energy auditing was to recommend steps to be taken by Management for improving the energy efficiency, reduce energy cost and saving the money on the energy bills. Complete analysis of the textile industry (Dying and Printing) was done and suggested energy conservation opportunities in the facility. Although the audit was done on Electrical, mechanical and thermal section, the thesis is only based on audit and energy conservation in the electrical sections of the industry, for which I was a part.
