Urban sanitation services in selected cities of India: case study analysis

Abstract: Population of urban India is expected to increase from 377 million in 2011 to 600 million in 2031and due to uncontrolled growth of urban population in India there has been seen scarce in infrastructure services like municipal solid waste management (MSWM), water supply, sanitation & sewerage and storm water drainage. The study has indentifies good practices of urban sanitation and analyzed the case studies of urban sanitation, progress under SBM, replicability. On the basis of Swachh Sarvekshan Survey 2016, five cities are indentifies from 5 different region of India, which are Gangtok, Bhubaneshwar, Trichy, Karnal and Pimpri-chicnhwad and this study has analyzed the status of sanitation services in Karnal and Trichy.
