Abstract: Sanitation is a venture with high financial returns. The absence of basic sanitation facilities & the
corresponding health risk is a major issue in most of the developing countries including India. A lot of
National as well as International steps are taken in past few decades to improve the sanitation
conditions. Most of the population in India is unaware of the entrenched connection between health and
cleanliness. The Lack of sanitary condition results in many diseases and illness, which affect social &
economic problems of the families and communities as a whole. Open defecation being practiced in
India reflects the non-existence of basic necessities. Hence, the need of the hour is to undertake
measures and interventions to spread awareness about sanitation & toilet culture in India like the
introduction of Swachh Bharat Mission by the Government of India. The present campaign aims to
involve all the stakeholders to make it a huge mass movement.
