Abstract: India has witness major structural changes and high economic growth in the last few decades. Even then, the economy has witnessed a consistent fall in female workforce participation rate. The existing literature on female WFPR have argued that the official estimates of female WFP are inappropriate indicators of women‟s actual contribution to economic activities as they tend to underestimate females contribution to the production economy. Given this, the study uses secondary data from Census and NSS to find out and analyze the trends in female workforce participation in Delhi from 1991 to 2011 with changes in average annual growth rate of GSDP. After giving the macro picture, the study answers the research question „What are the factors that determine female workforce participation in urban Delhi?‟ by using data from primary survey. Despite high economic growth, the results indicate that women‟s economic condition has not improved. Moreover, the situation gets worse when socio-economic condition of the women comes into play.
