Abstract: India being an emerging economy has seen a decrease in the development aid being received, which increases their dependence on funds from CSR. While it is mandatory for companies to follow the CSR mandate if they come under the purview of it, it emphasises on the need for accountability and transparency. This added accountability puts a pressure on the organizations to focus on results. In order to account for the progress, the organizations conduct monitoring and evaluation. It is an important part of the project cycle and improves the performance and management of outputs, outcomes and impact. Thinkthrough Consulting (TTC) is the PME agency hired by a public sector company to monitor their CSR projects. For these projects TTC has adopted Results Based Management (RBM) Monitoring Framework. All actor’s in Results Based Management Framework contribute directly or indirectly on results. It is different from a conventional monitoring systems as the baseline data determines the problem or the situation and it focuses on the perceptions of change among the stakeholders. The public sector company in partnership with development organizations is implementing the CSR projects. This documents further compares two education projects; one that failed to fit in the framework and the other that worked. While the framework adopted has standard common indicators set, it becomes a challenge to monitor the progress of different projects as it is not necessary they fit in the framework. What the PME agency fails to realise is this. Since the projects works on different projects from different sectors: WASH, Education and Elder Care, the requirements differ accordingly. Further in the document, there are several other gaps identified in the monitoring systems and analysis of the projects.
