Abstract: One of the most important and fast growing smart city solutions under Smart Cities Mission 2015 is smart parking. Urban spaces like universities, shopping markets, airports, commercial and office areas etc. are being designed with automated parking systems.

As metropolitan cities in India are rapidly urbanizing and witnessing population increase, a well-planned parking system can turn out to be extremely beneficial. Such measures can benefit in reducing traffic congestion and air pollution, increased user safety, better user experience etc. In such a way it can turn out to be an asset for the local government.

The capital city of India, New Delhi too suffers from parking and traffic mismanagement. Connaught Place, one of the largest business centers of Delhi is the first urban space which is going to be completely redesigned with automated parking solutions. It shall help in making user experience better in terms of booking, parking and payment.

The aim of the study is to understand the issues pertaining to parking in Connaught Place and proposing relevant smart solutions to overcome it. To carry out the study both primary and secondary sources were used for collection of data. Site visits, interviews of concerned officials and user survey was carried out. Legal reports, journals and maps related to smart parking in CP were also studied. Analysis of the information collected helped in completion of the objectives.

The findings were found to be quite progressive in terms of implementation of smart parking systems like auto sensors, digital boards, automatic pay stations etc. But a more comprehensive research is required in order to find smart solutions for parking violations, which is still quite prevalent in the area despite the implementation of proposed smart systems. Also, implementation of smart parking measures which could lead to sustainable transport solutions should also be worked upon.
