Abstract: It is estimated that Indian Industries has an energy saving potential of about 25% which is next only to Agricultural sector. Based on the inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows in a system, energy conservation methods are implemented without affecting the output of the industrial process. Energy audit is thus a systematic approach in the industrial sector.
This study presents the electrical and thermal energy auditing in manufacturing industry. This work focused on quality of energy which is being used in industries and the useful amount of energy which is wasted during the operations in industries. In this study various scope of energy saving is assessed and based on that possible solutions for energy conservation is suggested.
Individual energy consumption was evaluated for each machine and appliance based on BEE standards. While the majority of loses were observed in the inefficient pumps, the recommendations are only related to replacing the pumps with energy efficient pumps. While most of the solutions are based on BEE standards. It was observed that in industries big machineries which are used are not replaced every year and hence there is scope of industry specific or machinery specific research and development required which could provide a cheaper solution to the industry.
