Abstract: The energy policy simulator is a system dynamics model that is built on Vensim software and operates at country level. The simulation is carried out for the year 2017 up to 2050. It provides various outputs like the sector wise/total energy use, total carbon emissions, electricity generation, primary energy demand etc. It includes various policy levers specific for a sector or applies cross sectors. Various energy policy packages can be designed and effect of each of the policies on the outputs can be analyzed. It can be adopted for specific country by substituting the input data by the country specific data .The model include economically important sectors like Transport, Industry, Buildings and Electricity. The BAU scenario is not developed by the model but it considers the input values as the reference case. The model was adopted for India, the process included study of data requirement, collation of data for various sectors and integration of data into the model. For Input data, statistics, reports published by various ministries, reports by organizations, output values of other energy models was referred. The model was customized for India and the few of many important observations made from the outputs of BAU input data were industry the largest energy consumer of all sectors, the rate of increase of energy consumption is highest in Building sector and coal is still the predominant fuel.
