Abstract: The project was carried out in two different areas of focus. First and foremost was develop an energy efficiency and demand side management (dsm) roadmap for a utility in India. The second major area of study was the assessing opportunities for integration of energy efficiency and renewable energy technology in the cold storage operation in the state of Jharkhand.

In this context, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), with support from Macarthur Foundation, undertook a detailed study to prepare a DSM action plan for Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited(MESCOM), Karnataka. The study was based on detailed analysis of electricity consumption in different consumer categories of domestic, commercial, agriculture, and industries. The load research was carried out and the feeder level analysis was done.As a result, the DSM action plan for MESCOM was proposed which includes the replacement with energy efficient appliances, improvement in process and operational efficiency in the industrial sector, etc.

The second part of the project was Energy audit of cold storage units in Jharkhand. The complete analysis of the plant was done and suggested energy conservation opportunities in the facility. The audit was done on electrical, mechanical and thermal section, for which I was a part.
