Abstract: According to the Road Accidents in India 2016 survey, among the vehicle categories, two wheelers accidents accounted for the highest share with 33.8 percent. Out of total of 52,500 two wheeler riders, 10,135 two wheeler riders which accounted to 19.3 percent were reported to be not wearing helmets1. Invariably, not wearing safety helmets and unlawful over speeding have found to be the prime cause of fatalities on the road. Mahindra Finance has a fleet of 10,000 field executives involved in various operations pertaining to client capturing, lead management & collections in context with providing financial services in rural & semi-urban parts of India. Road Safety is increasingly becoming a priority for India to address for Mahindra Finance owing to number of Road fatalities observed amidst the field operations delivery. Mahindra Finance’s field executives travel to remote pockets of the country using two-wheelers as a mode of transport, facing challenges pertaining to poor road conditions, potholes, inadequate lighting, signage and an unsafe driving environment, which make them highly susceptible to road accidents.

Thus, Mahindra Finance’s flagship sustainability initiative: Project Shunya, endeavors to address the Road Safety nuances. In February- March 2018, Mahindra Finance launched its 2nd Road Safety initiative called Checkpoint Program, which entailed implementation of a Road Safety Checklist based assessment program driven by voluntary employee nominations of Road Safety Ambassadors pan India using an online application P3 developed with the assistance of Goodera Enterprise. This assessment aims as gauging the behavioral change of our employees post the implementation of the Road Safety E-learning module launched in 2016.

This study enumerates on the designing, launch & implementation of the 2nd program of Project Shunya- Checkpoint Program, documenting the measurable outcomes of the program & its progress so far.
