Abstract: The container industry is a service-based facility and information technology in this plays an important role as in any other industry. Though foundation lies in the operations of handling the containers IT lies at its core in making the operations more efficient and optimized.

My project is to identify any process in the yard operations that can be automated and provide possible suggestions to reduce the manual interventions. We are thinking of implementing a process where Customs House Agent (CHAs) can get the Job Order (JO) printed at their end. Currently, the CHAs have to approach the EXIM cell to get each JO printed. This will make the process more organized and lessen the burden on EXIM cell.

JO: It is a hard copy of giving permission to perform the tasks like cutting of seal, getting cargo examined from the customs inspector, loading of containers after custom examination. The generation of JO is a recurring task for every shipment. It is generated by the EXIM desk through ERP.
