Abstract:

Ahmedabad city in Gujarat is having good connectivity of surface transport and air transport (Anon., n.d.). In case of road transport, public and private bus operators operate number of buses to different cities across Gujarat and other states as well. These private and public buses stop at various bus stops located inside Ahmedabad city. The traffic of buses inside the city causes various problems like situation of traffic jam (Kaushik, 2018), degradation of AQI of the city (Kaushik, 2018).

My study focuses on shifting of these bus stops on the outskirts of the city by creating different possible scenarios. After talking to different private tours and travels operators, it was quite clear that shifting of bus stops can cause many problems for private bus operators and passengers. Some major problems include introduction of mini buses, vans etc. for whole day rather than just in ‘No Entry’ situation as per current scenario, the salary of staff for mini buses, vans etc., inconvenience to passengers as they need to board main bus on the outskirts of the city. Also, elderly people and women might face serious issues while changing buses at night or at desolate terminals/stops. For shifting of these bus stops on the outskirts of the city, primary and secondary data has been collected regarding routes of private/public buses, frequency of private/public buses at different stops during different time of the day, number of buses to/from Ahmedabad city, no of buses passing through Ahmedabad city etc. Site suitability analysis has been used to analyze the data collected to find suitable bus stops/terminals locations. Several possible scenarios have been made based on the location of bus stops/terminals.

Site suitability analysis has been used to find suitable bus stop locations using primary and secondary data collected. This analysis helped me in creating different scenarios which can be proposed for suitable bus stops/terminals.

Several findings included like stops having maximum number of traffic of public and private buses, routes catering to maximum number of public and private buses, stops having traffic during peak hours, location of parking related to major roads/highways in/out of the city etc
