Abstract:

This work of Studying the “FEASIBILITY OF OFFSHORE WINDFARMS IN GUJARAT” has been allotted to me by M/s Siemens Gamesa ‘Service Technical Team’ which is responsible for O&M operation of onshore turbines. In the later half of my period at Gamesa, I worked with the Marketing/Business Development people at Gamesa, who were directly involved in the offshore activities happened so far in the Indian offshore industry.

Over the course of this project, I have gathered the opinions of the potential developers of offshore wind project in India. I raised some queries and concerns of the developers (like Siemens Gamesa) to NIWE, in the form of a ‘questionnaire’ and prepared a roadmap for COE reduction of offshore projects, by drawing a comparison from a report on ‘roadmap of COE reduction’, published by BVG Associates in context of UK’s offshore market. The initial studies by FOWIND and FOWPI show that cost of energy generation for first Indian offshore project would be very high, around 11-13 Rs/ Kwh. I also modelled the parameters published in FOWIND studies in a sample costing sheet and reached to a COE of ~12 Rs/Kwh for initial offshore project in Gujarat and results are similar to the results published in FOWIND Study.

This led me to complete a Pre-Concept Design Study for the potential developer Siemens Gamesa, which has helped them increase their knowledge base and conduct a detailed concept design study at a later stage.
