Abstract:

The present study employs the use of location intelligence and the science of GIS in order to make business operations of “Mother Dairy” in Delhi more efficient and profitable.

As a step towards optimizing the operations, the best route has been identified between different units involved in the supply chain of “Mother Dairy”. The route identified takes the minimum time and distance to travel from one unit to the next. The routes have been identified for all the existing retail stores of the company from the processing plant district wise, for the territory of Delhi and based on the number of stores per district the number of trucks have been assigned. The time required to service each store as well as the operating hours of stores have been taken into consideration. The study also proposes new locations where opening of new stores would be profitable depending on the demographic attributes of the location and also taking into consideration the service areas of the existing stores. The whole of Delhi has been divided into grids and the highest profit potential grids have been identified. The profitability of each grid is calculated using Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) and grids with the highest score is considered having maximum potential for new stores.
