Abstract:

Urban public parks have a positive impact on the overall health of the neighbourhood. The question is, ‘how safe are these Public parks?’ This project therefore, encompasses a Safety Evaluation to rank a set of urban public parks in Delhi according to their level of Women Safety. A total of nine parks were evaluated on the basis on eleven identified Safety parameters. These parameters include Lighting, Visibility, Openness, Crowd, Gender Diversity, Security, Design, Walk path, Public Transport, Maintenance and Feeling at a point.

The project report is based on the safety audits and safety survey conducted manually in and around the parks in Delhi.

Audits and survey was conducted to analyse the condition of available infrastructure supporting the identified Safety parameters in and around the parks. The audits and the survey were conducted using the “My SafetiPin” App and Safeipin Site App respectively. SafetiPin, is a map-based cell phone application, which is built to make neighbourhoods and cities safer by giving data and information related to women safety collected by trained auditors and users.

Outcomes of the safety audit are then analyzed and aggregated to parameter ratings and finally to a safety score for each park. The parks are then ranked overall and category wise according to the safety score obtained.
