Abstract:

Sustainability has become the major focus for businesses around the world. As we head into a new decade, we look back at the past performances of businesses and governments; where we observe a transition. Consumer Capitalism has shaped up the current socio-economic & ecological environment we live in. Large consumer markets are the backbone for today’s economy, so judicious use of our natural resources and conserving our ecology is sacrosanct. Controlling and systemizing greenhouse gas emitted is imperative for a sustainable future. Air pollution arising from GHG emissions leads to climate change. Carbon pricing is an instrument that encapsulates the external costs of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. It ties social cost of emissions that the society pays for, such as health care costs from heat waves and damage to crops from floods & droughts, and loss of property from flooding and sea level rise, to their sources through a price, represented in the form of a price on the carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted. So Internal Carbon Pricing is that instrument which captures the cost of abatement of GHG emissions for an organization, and ties them to their sources through a price. This research focuses on developing a standard methodology for Internal Carbon Price determination, which can applied across different types of industries, so as to be used as a commercial consulting service for Thinkthrough Consulting Pvt. Ltd.
