Abstract:

The project is ‘Assessing the Functioning of CSR in Corporate sector: A Case study of TCS’, is a study carried out on M/s Tata Consultancy Services, which is a multinational IT and ITeS company of the Tata Group, headquartered in India, with its presence in various other countries. This study is based on the Carroll’s CSR Pyramid model, which specifies four major responsibilities of businesses towards the society. The study presents a brief scenario of the status of CSR in various countries and in India. It also discusses the evolution of CSR as a concept in detail. The CSR pyramid model is described in detail and an analysis of the model is carried out. The assessment of functioning TCS’s CSR initiatives is based on in-depth interviews with CSR coordinators and its volunteers in the National Capital Region. An analysis of secondary data is carried out using trend analysis and thematic analysis. Based on the Pyramid model of CSR, the compliance with each of the four responsibilities of business towards the society were verified independently. The results showed that each component of CSR has been significantly complied with by TCS, and the recommendations proposed are based on the findings of the study.
