Abstract:

Indian Agriculture has always faced issues with respect to exploitation of middlemen but the Farmer Producer Organizations have been turning need of the hour. The Intervention of Farmer Producer Company Concept has given rise to an active rise of agri-business in India with development of FPCs. There are around 7000 FPOs in the country. The Government of India has set a target to create 10000 more FPOs in the coming days. The FPOs act as one stop for farmers with end to end services with low cost. The FPOs are targeting the unorganized markets in existence since decades. Focusing on the issues of exploitation and gaps of connection for marketing and trade FPOs gave rise because of Y.K Alagh committee report in the year 2002- 2003. The Concept of FPOs have been focused towards making farmers livelihood and income better by letting the FPOs established where only Farmers can be the members. In an FPO irrespective of Small or Marginal Farmer, everyone has equal share holding in the company and have equal rights. FPOs are supported by SFAC for the FPOs project there has been a separate fund allotted by National Bank For Agriculture And Rural Development (NABARD) known as Produce Organization Development Fund (PODF).
