Abstract:

Climate change has been intensifying globally and is impacting all sectors and regions. Gautam Buddha Nagar is a district of Uttar Pradesh near the Delhi National Capital Region. It is a rapidly urbanizing district requiring more and more land for the ever-growing population, industrial and commercial needs. This study focuses on understanding the impacts of climate change on the AFOLU sector in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. The AFOLU sector that contributes around 25% of the global GHG emissions, also carries the potential of becoming one of the most significant sequester and carbon sinks, adding to its extreme relevance. Thus, it is rather pertinent to analyze how the transitioning landscape patterns (due to rapid urbanization) in such a densely populated district is impacting the AFOLU sector, comprising not only our exhausting forest & other natural resources but also impacting one of the most important livelihood and economy sectors- Agriculture and Livestock.
