Abstract:

Climate change presents severe challenges to critical sectors in India, notably agriculture, water resources, health, and ecosystems. The Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, particularly the district of Kadapa, is highly susceptible to these impacts due to its semi-arid climate and agricultural dependence. This study aims to capture local perceptions of climate change, conduct a comprehensive vulnerability assessment, and emphasize sex-disaggregated data to ensure equitable adaptation strategies. Utilizing semi-structured interviews with men and women across five villages, the study highlights the differential impacts on various groups. Key findings indicate significant concerns regarding erratic and reduced rainfall, rising temperatures, and their adverse effects on crop yields, water availability, and health. The study calls for targeted interventions to enhance adaptive capacity, including the promotion of climate-resilient agriculture, improved water management, and the integration of gender-sensitive policies. This research underscores the critical importance of community engagement and localized assessments to inform and develop effective climate adaptation strategies.
