ANNOUNCEMENTS
This project investigates the relationship between ESG performance and investment in heavy industries within India. The methodology utilizes a three- pronged approach: materiality analysis, ESG trend analysis, and investment/profitability trend analysis.
Focusing on three booming industries and six leading companies within those industries, the research aimed to provide practical insights. These companies, with their strong market presence, brand recognition, and global workforce, have a significant impact on the environment, society, and the economy through their sustainability efforts. A materiality assessment is conducted to identify key ESG topics for each industry sector. Companies are then compared based on their disclosures regarding these material topics. A scoring system is implemented to create a materiality matrix, highlighting the impact of each topic on the business and its importance to stakeholders. The research explored the concept of sustainability through a three-pillar framework, specifically analyzing corporate sustainability practices. ESG trend analysis is conducted over a three-year period (2021-2023) to assess the responsible performance of the companies. Key performance indicators are defined based on the identified material topics, and companies are scored based on their actions related to each factor.
Investment trends are analyzed by examining shareholding patterns from 2021 to 2023. This provides insights into investor confidence and potential alignment with ESG principles.
The project acknowledges the complexities of integrating ESG considerations into business and investment decisions in India. It highlights the need for continuous effort from both companies and investors to promote sustainable practices and contribute to a more sustainable future.
