Abstract: The contribution of bicycles to urban transport systems has been declining over the years.
However, transport planners should root for urban bicycle use since it leads to pollution reduction
and energy conservation. This study proposes building bicycling facility in Bhiwadi, India and it
then uses a contingent valuation approach to estimate economic value of bicycle corridor across
beneficiaries. A detailed description of the project is presented to the heads of the households,
potentially affected by the project and then they are asked to vote on whether such a project
should be undertaken given different specifications of costs to the households. The survey
answers are then used to derive the willingness to pay for the project. Econometric analysis
indicates that the survey responses provide generally reasonable willingness to pay estimates.
