Abstract: Global installed capacity of renewable energy technologies is growing
rapidly. This paper presents the cost comparison of various captive
generation options both in terms of year-to-year unit costs of electricity
and also total cost of ownership of three renewable technologies: solar
photovoltaic (PV), wind and hydro. The attractiveness of each option is
evaluated based on LCOE, ease of implementation and efficiency. To find
the factors that affect the economics of electricity generation, sensitivity
analysis is done for key parameters. The findings suggest that wind
energy has the lowest energy costs, followed by hydro and then PV.
