Flat Plate Collector System (with solar multiple collection experiment)

Solar Flat-Plate Collector Based system is a replica of the solar water heating system designed in a form of experimental setup to help students learn and experience different parameters of performance of Flat Plate Collector System. This system helps students in practical understanding of various technical parameters such as Overall Heat Loss Co-efficient, Heat Removal Factor and Efficiency at different flexible input parameters like radiation, wind speed etc. The system has in built sensors which measure parameters like pressure, temperature, and flow rate etc, mounted on a control unit.

LHTES testing setup

Development of compact heat energy storage device is important to reduce mismatch between supply and demand. This setup deals with the system performance experimental study of latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) system for medium temperature applications. Food grade sugar alcohol is used as phase change material (PCM) for thermal energy storage. For charging process, a shell and tube type storage with targeted storage capacity of 1 MJ is used.

Cold chain infrastructure is important for reducing the wastage of perishable products. The wastage can be avoided by thermal energy (coolth) storage installed along with the refrigeration system. The system consists of ice-based cold storage for understanding transient charging behaviour and calculation of stored energy.
