Abstract:

Climate change of late has surfaced as a global issue of concern; it poses severe threats to the world. Majority of world populations are unware of climate change including Liberia, though they are greatly vulnerable. Notwithstanding, the Liberian government is concerned about the challenges and has developed policies and implemented projects to that effect.

Although the government is working to reduce the impact, there is still a need to increase awareness among Liberians to have effective policy implementation. Also, not knowing the awareness level of Liberian youth towards climate change will affect the implementation of future policies; and so, it is important to carry out this research to fill the literature gap since there is limited studies that focus on understanding youth awareness of climate change in Liberia; hence this research seeks to understanding urban youth awareness of climate change to gather priorities for future action.

The finding of this research shows general awareness of climate change among the respondents, however there was lower awareness in terms of what it entails with regards to the causes, impacts and adaptation measures in dealing with climate change; therefore there’s a need to proliferate all efforts in creating awareness and scaling-up youth participation in national planning and decision making processes if there should be significant progress and achievements in the nearest future from the youth in combating climate change.
