Abstract:

Through critical and in depth study, this report is intended to find out the Impact of the Watershed Management projects on the local community executed by the Funding agency in collaboration with the implementation partner in Jhabua district in Madhya Pradesh.

The project was implemented in 2015 as a part of their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative. The broader objective of the project was to provide socio economic benefits to the local population, generating alternate source of livelihood and social empowerment of Women. The desired results included increase in agricultural production, increase in household income, food security, development of Village level institutions, reduction in migration, increase in groundwater table, improvement in literacy rate, housing condition and educational system.

The reason behind executing specifically in this location was low irrigation yield, poor green cover, distressed migration, low productivity, improper use of natural resources and enough annual rainfall with full of river and rivulet network carrying good amount of runoff during monsoon. Also, major population belongs to Schedule Tribe which is considered as the most disadvantaged group in the society.

The targeted results was planned to achieve by constructing twenty five Check Dams for proper Groundwater Management .Further, motivating people to plant trees in order to reduce soil erosion thus reducing run-off. Post project implementation, awareness sessions were conducted giving knowledge about the preventive maintenance of the structures built, government schemes/yojna and better agricultural practices. The impact were analysed through qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data obtained from primary and secondary sources and accordingly results and recommendations were given.
