Abstract:

The global textile industry, while fundamental to economies worldwide, poses a substantial environmental threat due to its extensive wastewater generation and inadequate adoption of water recycling practices. Nowhere is this challenge more pronounced than in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, India—a renowned industrial hub synonymous with textile production. Here, the confluence of rapid urbanization and industrial expansion has intensified the strain on water resources, necessitating urgent attention to water management practices. This study focuses on understanding the intricate dynamics of water supply by NTADCL, the primary industrial water source in the region. Through examination of historical data and scenario-based forecasts, this research underscores the imperative need for elevated water management strategies to sustainably facilitate industrial growth. It offers a detailed assessment of Tirupur's water supply systems and the capacity to meet future demands, emphasizing the pivotal role of the fourth water supply scheme. Central to the findings is the urgent need to promote the utilization of recycled water, optimize existing water infrastructure, and deploy cutting-edge water-efficient technologies to address Tirupur's evolving water challenges. Moreover, the paper present actionable recommendations aimed at seamlessly integrating water management policies with industrial needs and environmental sustainability goals.

By providing strategic insights and proactive directives, the study endeavors to steer stakeholders toward a path of resilience and sustainability in water resource management in Tirupur. In doing so, it seeks to safeguard the long-term prosperity of the textile industry while preserving the ecological integrity of Tirupur's ecosystems.
