Student name: Ms Swaroopa Saxena

Year of completion: 2025

Supervisor (Host Organisation): Dr Prachi Chopra
Abstract:

The internship with Intellect Bastion provided a broad immersion into the multifarious world of the analytics of patents and intellectual property management. I had an active role during this period in different stages of patent lifecycle such as prior art searches, patent drafting, analysis of claims, and competitive intelligence. The work was a multi-dimensional expanse covering a wide space of technologies from biotechnology and pharmaceuticals to mechanical and software inventions providing a comprehensive understanding of details involved in safeguarding intellectual assets in different spheres.

Such tools as Google Patents, Espacenet, Patentscope, and The Lens were used to search and assess existing prior art and to design informed drafting strategies. The importance of precision in claim construction, novelty analysis and jurisdiction-specific legal standards during the process of differentiating patentable subject matter across countries was also greatly accentuated at the internship.

Strategic role played by patent landscaping in research and business decisions was one insight that was achieved. Additionally, issues that arose during searches for novelty – conflict of prior art or ambiguous language of the claim – demonstrated the vital requirement for critical thinking and expertise in technologies. The experience emphasized the importance of IP literacy in the innovation- based businesses and enhanced me to apply a legal knowledge to technical disclosures.

This internship brought practical skills and basics for a career in intellectual property, and particularly, in multidisciplinary areas such as biotechnology and emerging technologies.
