Abstract:

This study undertakes a comprehensive secondary literature-based assessment of forest landscape restoration initiatives in Madhya Pradesh, India, focusing on a three-year comparative analysis of three major national schemes: the Green India Mission (GIM), the National Afforestation Programme (NAP). Forests in Madhya Pradesh constitute a significant ecological asset, and the state plays a pivotal role in India's climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. Using data from government reports, academic literature, and project evaluations, this study explores the implementation status, outcomes, and challenges of these schemes. The methodology is based on thematic content analysis of published secondary sources. The study reveals key insights into landscape selection strategies, afforestation outcomes, livelihood generation, ecosystem service enhancement, and the integration of technology such as STARMAP. Findings suggest that while progress has been made, especially in ecological restoration and community participation, the scale and efficiency of implementation remain uneven. The analysis underscores the need for improved monitoring, cross sectoral coordination, and sustained community engagement to achieve long term ecological and socioeconomic goals.
