Position: Research Intern

Position With: Emerson Centre of Excellence for Sustainability Studies at TERI SAS
Duration of Internship: 16 June – 30 November 2025 (5.5 months) and extendable based on project requirements
Engagement: Full time
Stipend: Rs 12000 - 15000 per month
Brief:
The Emerson Centre of Excellence for Sustainability Studies at TERI-SAS focuses on examining and addressing real-world sustainability challenges through innovative research, capacity-building programs, and actionable solutions. The Emerson CoE is currently focusing on research activities such as – assessing the socio-cultural dynamics while mapping the impact of floating population on sewerage and river water during the Maha Kumbh 2025; and developing framework and approaches to strengthening capacities of Higher Educational Institutions for transitioning towards net-zero. The Intern shall assist the CoE Director and research staff in such ongoing research activities. The tasks may include but not limited to – taking a structured approach in collating and synthesizing relevant literature, data analysis, field studies, stakeholder consultations, documentation, report writing and any other scholarly outputs, assisting in capacity enhancement programmes, and any activities related to such research initiatives. This internship shall provide an opportunity to contribute towards development of meaningful sustainability solutions at both societal and institutional levels while learning and gathering hands-on experience on sustainability practices.

Position: Post-doctoral Fellow at the Emerson Centre of Excellence for Sustainability Studies at TERI SAS

Position Title: Post-doctoral Fellow
Start date: 1st July 2025
Nature of the Research Engagement: To work on the project, IPSA-Kumbh – Mapping impact of floating population on sewerage infrastructure and river water quality during Maha Kumbh 2025 at Prayagraj under Namami Gange Programme. The project partners are TERI School of Advanced Studies, IIT Roorkee, IIT-BHU and Hokkaido University. The project activities by TERI SAS include developing a framework for WaSH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) services at Kumbh. To also contribute to research activities of the Centre in the domain of sustainability with emphasis on aspects such as net zero educational campuses, stakeholder engagement and urban planning, quantitative methods, and life cycle/carbon footprint assessments and circular economy.
Duration of the Position: Around 5 months (with expectation to be extended)
Monthly Salary: Rs 80,000 + HRA (27%)
Qualifications and Experience: Ph.D. in disciplines associated with urban planning, sustainability, urban services, resource efficiency, circular economy, life cycle assessment, and net zero buildings. Experience of working on related research projects, developing research proposals, undertaking field studies, writing quality research project reports and research publications, and organising research outreach activities. Evidence of publication shall be helpful. Willing to be stationed at Delhi and to travel to Prayagraj, as and when required.
