Dr Subrata Sinha is a distinguished biomedical scientist and academic leader, currently serving as National Science Chair (SERB, Department of Science and Technology) in the Department of Biochemistry at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. An alumnus of AIIMS, he holds an MBBS, MD (Biochemistry), and PhD, and has received advanced research training at the MRC Toxicology Unit, UK. His early academic excellence was recognized with the Sir Dorabjee Tata Award.
Dr. Sinha has had an illustrious career at AIIMS, where he has served as Professor of Biochemistry and Head of the Departments of Biochemistry and of Laboratory Medicine. He has held key leadership roles including Dean (Academics), Dean (Research), and Dean (Examinations). He was Director of the National Brain Research Centre, Manesar. His research spans cancer biology, neuroscience, molecular and cellular biochemistry, and translational biomedical science.
A Fellow of all four major Indian science and medical academies, Dr. Sinha has received several prestigious honours, including the J.C. Bose Fellowship, Swarna Jayanti Fellowship, and numerous lifetime achievement awards and named orations. He has played a pivotal role in shaping national science and health policy through leadership of advisory committees for DST, DBT, ICMR, CSIR, and other premier institutions, significantly contributing to India’s biomedical research ecosystem.
Dr Sinha has numerous publications in prestigious journals and been awarded six patents, including 3 US patents.
