ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Department of Policy and Management Studies at TERI School of Advanced Studies organized a Special Lecture by Prof. Thomas Pogge, Leitner Professor of Philosophy and International Affairs at Yale University, on Friday, 20th March 2026 from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The lecture focused on the concept of the Ecological Impact Fund, an innovative international financing mechanism aimed at incentivizing the development and dissemination of green technologies.
In his lecture, Prof. Pogge discussed how the proposed Ecological Impact Fund seeks to encourage innovators to exchange certain monopoly privileges for impact-based rewards. This approach aims to promote environmentally sustainable technological solutions while ensuring broader global access. He emphasized that such policy instruments can bridge the gap between environmental sustainability, global governance, and ethical frameworks for addressing climate change and development challenges.
Prof. Pogge was felicitated by Prof. Sukanya Das, Dean (Research & Partnerships) and Dr. Shantanu Roy, Head of the Department of Policy and Management Studies. The event was also graced by the presence of Prof. Suman Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, TERI SAS who spoke about the role of patent systems in shaping innovation and highlighted how the proposed Ecological Impact Fund (EIF) could help balance intellectual property incentives with the broader goal of sustainability by rewarding innovations that generate measurable environmental impact.
The lecture concluded with an engaging interaction with students and faculty members, making the session insightful and intellectually enriching for all attendees.
